The following ingenious verses were written to a young lady.
From a bear and a bagpipe, a churl and a cat;
From the twang of a cold, and the squeak of a rat;
From a pate void of brains, and a pig without fat;
Deliver me.
. . . [10 verses]
From riots and routs, ridottos and drums,
Pimps ribbon'd, plain pettifogers, and plums,
Titled whores in brocade, and poor tatterly strums--
Deliver me.
. . . [1 more verse]
